History
Previously known as Preston Hospital, the Trust was originally founded by Lady Catherine Herbert, the daughter of the 1st Earl of Bradford. £6000 was left to house twelve widows and twelve girls. Over the years, family members’ estates and contributions were used to build and extend a premises in Preston upon the Weald Moors, followed by investment to ensure future funds to increase pensions, pay for coal, bedding and furniture and funeral expenses.
Now relocated to Newport, Shropshire, Preston Trust Homes is a purpose built Almshouse able to provide modern facilities and a high standard of living, making a viable charity able to meet its aims.
Preston Trust Homes is unusual in that the trust is still run by the original family; currently the 7th Earl of Bradford.
